Layers for the swing
Days are warm to hot; nights cool off quickly once the sun is down, even in summer. Bring light clothing for the afternoons and a real layer — a sweater or jacket — for dinners on the terrace and evenings by the fire. In winter, pack warmer than you think.
Sun, dust and gravel
The sun is strong and the roads and winery yards are unpaved. Bring a hat, good sunglasses and sunscreen, and shoes you do not mind getting dusty — flat, comfortable shoes beat anything delicate on gravel. Swimwear, of course; the pool is the center of the house.
The small things
Your passport for the border, a little cash in pesos for smaller wineries and tips, and any medication you need, since the valley is rural and pharmacies are down in Ensenada.
